As we move through our seventh year we are delighted with progress to date.

We have 24 Foundation pupils in the School today and 42 pupils who have been supported since 2004.  More than £8.1 million has been raised through the huge generosity of Rugbeians, parents and friends of the School and while much of this is being used to fund current pupils we are also building an endowment for the future.

The benefits the Foundation brings are enjoyed across the School, and not just by the Arnold Foundation pupils themselves, enabling us to enhance the social and intellectual diversity for all.

We do not advertise for pupils but work principally with partner organisations and know this is crucial to our success.  More information.

The pupils are thriving and exam results this year has been excellent with the best A level grades ever at Rugby.  The six Arnold Foundation pupils leaving us in July achieved fifteen A grades between them and are all at university or taking a gap year.  One of our Arnold Foundation pupils is now reading History at Pembroke College, Cambridge.

Arnold Foundation pupils participate fully in all Rugby has to offer, contributing in so many ways through sport, music, clubs, societies and there are pupils in each of the five years at Rugby.  For those of us who have been fortunate to meet Arnold Foundation pupils or have heard them speak at various events throughout the year can be in no doubt as to the benefits the Foundation can bring.

The sole purpose of the Arnold Foundation is to provide bursaries for pupils in boarding places at Rugby School.  The Foundation does not seek gifts for capital projects.

Our aim is simply that we should have 10% of pupils at Rugby School funded either through the Lawrence Sheriff Bequest, for day pupils, or through the Arnold Foundation for those in boarding places within the next 10 years.  All awards are means-tested and funds are only used where they are needed most.  Arnold Foundation pupils may receive awards of up to 100% of fees and a contribution to essential extras subject to that means-testing.

Rugby has always sought to widen access and. as bursary programmes come under closer scrutiny we celebrate the fact that the Foundation is already firmly established now and for the future.

However, in some respects the success of the initiative, which has received wide national coverage, is creating new challenges for us and we have more good candidates than funds to support them despite the generosity of many donors to date.  We need to bridge this gap and appeal to all Rugbeians, parents and friends to help us do this.
